Short Vine’s Fall 2024 issue: Illusion/delusion is live! Thank you to all of the artists and authors that submitted their work, our editors had so much fun working with you all. Please check out the current and archived issues of Short Vine on our site! Our submissions will not reopen until Spring 2025, but in the meantime, we do have recommendations on where you can submit your work!

Polaris Literary Magazine

Accepting submissions until February 1 2025

Polaris Literary Magazine is an award winning national undergraduate literary magazine. They are open for submissions annually from September 1st to February 1st and accept fiction, non-fiction, visual art, and poetry. All submissions to the magazine are automatically entered into a free contest with cash prizes.

Hog Creek Hardin

Accepting submissions until May 2025

Hog Creek Hardin is a literary journal housed at The Ohio State University Lima campus and is edited by undergraduates. Hog Creek Hardin engages rolling submissions and accepts work during the entire academic year from August to May. They welcome submissions of artwork and any genre of writing. Prairie Margins

Accepting submissions until March 2025

Prairie Margins, the national undergraduate literary magazine at Bowling Green State University, is currently open for submissions for the 2024-2025 issue until March. They accept fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art pieces from undergraduate students across the country and welcome you to submit! They are nationally recognized, and there is no fee to submit. Submission guidelines can be found on their website. They use Submittable to manage submissions. Queen City Writers

Accepting submissions through Spring 2025 

Queen City Writers is a journal for undergraduate students belonging to any post-secondary institution. They publish reviews, snapshots of writers, and comments (visit their submission page for more info.) Issues are published twice a year in fall and spring. They seek thought-provoking pieces pertaining to any disciplinary perspective. In addition, they welcome experimental projects. 

The Foundationalist

Accepting submissions until March 10 2025

The Foundationalist, the University of Iowa’s literary journal, accepts undergraduate literary essays, poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. They would also be happy to accept anything that had been written for class. There are no page limits or themes. They simply want students to submit their best work! In the past, they have published works from across the globe, giving writers the opportunity to join a community of over 125+ other authors from 70+ universities. If selected, your writing will be published on academia.edu and in print format. The deadline is March 10, 2025 at midnight.
